Lost in Mr. Parks by Lilly James
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 **this time is forever** STARS

“I hate you. I love you and I fucking hate you.”

The two crazy kids are back in town and oh, how I missed them. A little over a year ago I started this insane ride and I can’t believe it’s over now. They finally got their happy ending and I’m still grinning like a loon. Evey and Wade must be the most dysfunctional, volatile and intense couple on my bookshelf, but more than anything they deserve a little happy and I’m so glad they finally got it.

“Sometimes you have to crawl through shit to eventually glide through air.”

Lost in Mr. Parks is the third instalment in the Parks series and for obvious reasons anything I could tell you about the story and where Evey and Wade are at this point in their relationship would end up spoiling the first two books for new readers. I'm not going to do that. So, here is my very vague status quo...

Evey and Wade have been through the ringer. Emotionally and even physically. Their relationship in the past has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. Seriously. The back and forth is almost whiplash inducing in this case. Angsty, gut wrenching, scorching hot and so damn sweet. And unfortunately the end of Addicted to Mr. Parks (book 2) had left us with yet another cliffhanger and an impasse in their love story.

And now they have to figure out where to go from here and most importantly fight for what they want. Deal with their own past in order to have a chance at a future together.

To my great pleasure and much needed peace of mind, Evey is actually the most stable person at this point. Lost in Mr. Parks is a lot more about Wade and his demons than Evey's issues. And after two books of constant torture she was due for a much needed reprieve. But that doesn't mean she isn’t fighting for what she wants. Question is can she be heard?

“We are each other’s enemies but also each other’s lifelines. She saved me from a life of mental torture, and I saved her from a life of loneliness.”

Now real talk. When I am completely honest at around 30% I figured out the whole main drama that eventually blows up in their faces. It was very obvious. I’m not exactly sure if the author wanted it to be a secret we were supposed to learn with the characters, but for me the puzzle pieces fell into place very early one. The thing is I didn’t care and I still don’t. For two reasons.

First, with Ms. James you never really know what kinds of twisted and angst filled ways she comes up to detonate the bomb. And I wasn’t wrong. The last 20% of my read completely gutted me and before that I was so anxious to see how she would do it that I couldn’t for the life of me put the damn book down. Very addictive.

Second, regardless of the fact that I figured a few things out early it didn’t ruin the journey and the way Evey and Wade’s relationship blossomed. It was beautiful and cathartic. I loved how their problems were actually talked about and really dealt with. You don’t see that too often in a romance book. In return it made me really appreciate and believe in their love and the deep connection they had.

All in all a very moving end to a gripping, angsty and at times emotionally exhausting series. There are so many things about this series that screams formula. Rich guy with a domineering personality basically orders the girl to become his. You heard that before, right? I can honestly say The Parks series is very much much like that, but on the other hand NOT AT ALL. There are so many layers to the characters, their faults and shortcomings. Yes, they are broken and yes they heal each other, but in a way I haven’t read before. For a first time author Ms. James really did good with Evey and Wade. I can’t wait to read some more from her in the future.
