MY REVIEW

Hold On by Kristen Ashley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 **bittersweet** STARS

“Christ, you're pretty, even standin' there plotting my murder.”

I should change my name to Flo - the broken record. Yes, I loved this book. Yes, Kristen Ashley is the best. Yes, eventually I'm going to read a book by another author again. I promise. ;D

Hold On was such a bittersweet read. The story of an underdog couple I had not on my radar at all. Cher was always around and yet, I still had no opinion about her. Indifference being the operative word. Merry, well more of the same. Suffice it to say that changed within the first few minutes of reading the book. Really quite the surprise.

Of course it is heartbreaking that Hold On is the sixth and last instalment in the 'Burg series, but I couldn't have asked for a better conclusion. I just don't want it to end.

“Did he know that he was the dream come true a girl like me would never dare to dream?”

Let's talk a little about story...

Cheryl 'Cher' Rivers had a rather tragic introduction into the the 'Burg clique. She was one of Danny Lowe's victims, but with the help of Alec and Feb she found herself a new life, work and a lot of new friends after the asshole met his maker. Now she works at J&J's bar and has a little house together with her eleven year old son. She is independant, a fantastic mother and loyal friend.

One thing she still needs, or better yet wants is a man. For years she had a thing for Garrett 'Merry' Merrick, and she shows it by being the tough chick, making him laugh and being a friend.

Merry is a cop, best friends with all our faves and also Rocky's brother. He used to be married, got divorced 5 years ago, but was never able to let go of his ex. He screwed around a lot and noticing Cher as a possible partner was never in the cards. That is until one night they get drunk together. Things happen. Clothes become optional. You can guess the rest.

I loved Cher and Merry, really one of the better couples around. They communicate and work with each other on eye level. Not to mention they are scorching hot together. Merry is the perfect mix of alpha male and caring sweet guy, and he is just the right one to crack Cher's hard exterior and he loves Ethan.

“It happens. For people like us, baby. It happens, eventually. Just as long as we hold on.”

Hold On was all I could have hoped for the last book in a series. A seriously amazing couple, kick-ass characters, amble amounts of action and drama. But most of all a chance to catch up with all of my favourite people in town. Also Ryker the matchmaker. That man...I'm still laughing.

Finally, I have to mention the epilogue. EPIC! A treat for all the fans out there.
