FLO'S REVIEW
Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
5 **colourful** STARS
“Life's a roller coaster. Best damn ride in the park. You don't close your eyes, hold on and wait for it to be over, babe. You keep your eyes open, lift your hands straight up in the air and enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts.”
All is right in the world again. After being more than a little disappointed by Law Man I was almost losing faith in Ms. Ashley for a second, but don’t fear my gently review readers, she hit it out of the park with this one. Uber sexy biker bad boy, feisty heroine, excellent chemistry, a little action and major swoon fest. I’m yet again in my KA wonderland bubble.
Motorcycle Man is the fourth and last instalment in the Dream Man series and at last we get to enjoy Tack's story. Over the course of the series we have seen a lot of the notorious Chaos MC president. We first met him as the mysterious and smoking hot biker who had a little standoff with Hawk and Lawson regarding Gwen’s heart...and we all know who won that fight. *sigh*Hawk*sigh* But I digress, he slowly but surely became a household name in the subsequent books, helping out in precarious situations and having his hands in all kinds of dangerous dealings. To say I was curious to see where his story would lead was the understatement of the century. Especially since everyone told me his was the book to read. Well, I can second that. Fan-freaking-tastic ride.
Let's talk story.
“I’m Chaos?”“Was my dick just in you?”I fought an annoyed growl and said, “Uh... yeah.”“Then you’re Chaos.”
Tack and Tyra’s story starts with a bang. Pun intended. Yes, you should take that literally. Tyra attends one of the Chaos MC’s parties and the moment she lays eyes on Tack she is a gonner. Over tequila and roast pork sandwiches she falls in love and eventually into bed with him. One hot hook-up and in the end he tells her to leave. Slam, bam, thank you ma’am.
That’s where the real problem starts. She is not only crushed by his less than cavalier behaviour (biker, anyone?) but there is also the minor issue of her being the garage’s new office manager. Yup, fucking the boss always ends well.
What can I say? I freaking love this set-up. It might sound instalove-ish, but don’t worry his actions have quite the opposite effect on Tyra. But regardless she needs the job and when they meet again the next day she fights for it too. What ensues is a delicious battle of wills. Tack is used to getting respect and talkback is not usual for him, but the moment the sassy redhead gets in his face he starts to get a little more interested in the woman - in addition to wanting her naked on the office desk.
I absolutely adored Tyra. She doesn’t cave in and bends herself to fit into Tack’s world without getting something from him in return. She is not accustomed to the MC life. For all intents and purposes two worlds are clashing together here. She wears fancy pencil skirts and high heels and he is a rough biker, but they sure know how to make it work. I actually think when it comes to the Dream Man heroines Tyra wins the competition by a mile. She is feisty, outspoken, can handle herself and knows what she wants. Or she knew it until she met a kick-ass biker and learned the hard way that life can be colourful and being a biker babe is pretty darn cool, drama notwithstanding.
Drama being a crazy ex-wife, the russian mob, teenagers in the house and McGyvering with Aunt Bette. The latter quite possibly qualifying as one of my favourite things in the whole damn book. I need me an Aunt like that.
“The most beautiful stories ever told are the most difficult to take.”
What can I say about Tack? Well, you have to meet him. He actually manages to stand out in a long line of alpha- male-dream-men. Not an easy task. He is a bit stoic, a whole lot in control, naughty and more than a little secretive. Naturally he has a heart of gold and once you peel back the layers and get to the history, what brought him here, he becomes one of those unforgettable book boyfriends.
I'm both a KA fan and a lover of MC books, but up until now I wasn't sure if the two together would make such a good combination. Well, now I know they do. It's a sweet balance between a swoon worthy love story with a little edge, courtesy of the dangers MC life brings to the table. Tack being the president of said club and living in an outlaw world reacts a little different to relationship matters. And it's fun. On top of that it makes for good stories and Ms. Ashley’s highly descriptive and very detailed style felt a little less strained as well.
Lastly, I’m thrilled to read more about the Chaos boys in their own little book series. Yes, I’m most definitely addicted. ;P
